Description / Campsis Summer Jazz™ Fire

In its first year, this small Trumpet Creeper took a big prize as the best new plant, showing that its compact size didn't remove the roar from its blaring tone! Just half the size and half the vigor of other Trumpet Vines, Summer Jazz ™ 'Fire' provides a garden's supply of color and energy.

The bright red-orange, trumpet-shaped flowers bloom from spring through fall. The bright combination of fire-breathing colors and the manageable size of the Semi-Dwarf make 'Fire' ideal for small trellis or fences. The Summer Jazz ™ series plant is a striking plant that stands out from traditional varieties for its smaller size. It holds its flowers at about 2 feet in height.

'Fire' was selected as the best new plant at Plantarium 2014 in The Netherlands, where it was the only one of 50 shrub entries to win a Gold Medal. The jury praised its warm, orange-red flower color and its healthy, dark-green leaves.

A healthy climber, 'Fire' has outstanding growing habits and requires little maintenance. It's extremely good as a climbing plant for walls, fences and pergolas. The plant should not be trimmed, except to control runners. The colors of 'Fire' flowers remain bold throughout the season. So do the dark-green leaves, which are resistant to disease.

Vigorous production of the showy flowers attracts hummingbirds and butterflies and is resistant to deer. The nectar of 'Fire' is also attractive to insects, including bees. When watering, consider wind, temperature and soil. Provide an all-purpose fertilizer in early spring and early fall.
