Description / Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue'
Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue' is a superior clone of the Blue Mist Shrub, selected at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania for its upright growth, long bloomtime, heavy flower production, and superb silvery foliage. A garden standout that needs little attention to look its best for years, Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue' is a fine addition to the sunny to partly shaded garden!
This shrub is 2 to 4 feet tall and wide, creating a big impact even in a small space. As a long, glorious hedge (as pictured here at Longwood Gardens), it is breathtaking. Butterflies can't resist these blue blooms, adding even more color to the garden!
Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue' blooms most heavily from midsummer into fall, continuing through those late-summer doldrums that can make a garden look spent. Its flowers are a rich, hard-to-find shade of blue, and make fine cut flowers. They're nicely complemented by the silvery hues on the foliage!
Upright and never sprawling or rangy, Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue' is an altogether superior selection of the beloved Blue Mist Shrub. Give it a try in your garden this season!
Space shrubs 3 to 4 feet apart in well-drained soil in full sun in the North or partial shade in the South. Zones 5-9.

Pretty but became Invasive 0 people found this helpfulI wanted these for a few years before I got them. This was their third season. I cut them off at the root and will wrap the roots in black plastic to kill them. In town it probably wouldn’t be a problem but here in woodside setting they became invasive. I don’t know if if they would have bred true but even if they did; I don’t want dozens of them.

Year 5 coming up and fabulous in NC 1 people found this helpfulZone 7 and these bushes do not disappoint. We rooted and moved some in the first year and our house has them on 3 sides now. Different amounts of sun delay the bushes in the side yard so we get even longer blooming overall and the bees love them. Really glad we started with 3 bushes. Every other year we cut them down to 6 inches to b Let them grow back strong and avoid a scale disease we started having in year 3 and year 4 was the best year ever.

Longwood Blue 0 people found this helpfulI planted five of these in Strawberry, AZ, which gets snow and down to -8 in winter at times. They were beautiful plants that took very little care once established. We had droughts and they were drought tolerant. Will definitely try these again in Nevada.

Longwood Blue Caryopteris 0 people found this helpfulGreat plant to grow in Georgia, north of Atlanta. Never sick or sorry, tolerated the dry weather and red clay. Beautiful blue added to the landscape.
