Description
A native North American species and favorite nectar plant for pollinators, Magical® Moonlight is highly adaptable and environmentally beneficial. Although this buttonbush prefers moist, organic soil, it will grow in almost any garden soil and can even handle poor, overcrowded soils. Its unusual tubular white flower clusters are intensely fragrant and a tremendous source of nectar for hummingbirds and other pollinators in spring. The perfectly spherical flower heads mature into fruits, containing nut-like seeds, that sustain waterfowl and birds in late summer and fall.
This shrub has an unusually compact form for its species, great for urban environments, and has no known pests or diseases. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and in moist to wet soil. It will even tolerate some standing water, so the edge of ponds and naturalized wet areas and bogs offer perfect locations.
