Description
Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit
The dark prominent red flowers of the Clematis 'Niobe' spreads five to six inches wide. Considered one of the best on the market, Clematis 'Niobe' has velvety petals that grow vigorously and spruce up any garden. Winner of the Garden Merit Award in 1993, Clematis 'Niobe' began its journey in Poland during the 1970s and continues to charm through this day as a favorite of flowered hybrid clematis.
One curious trait of Clematis 'Niobe' is its ability to behave like a type 3 pruning group of the clematis family. When hard pruned, it delays blooming so when they do open up, you receive the full effect of the luscious garnet red coloring. Like most plants, climate and site may affect its growth and blooming seasons. Nevertheless, Clematis 'Niobe' performs solidly and will grow in containers and the ground.
