  • Description / Alcea Double Pink Hollyhock

Alcea Double Pink is a tall and stately hollyhock that grows to a mature height of 4 to 8 feet and blooms from mid to late summer. The lofty spires are densely packed with large, romantic double blooms with layer upon layer of ruffled, clear-pink petals. The frilly flowers attract pollinators to the garden, especially butterflies and hummingbirds, and make fabulous cut flowers.

An Alcea rosea variety, commonly called hollyhock, Double Pink is an extremely cold hardy perennial suitable for Zones 2-8. Although typically biennial, Double Pink hollyhock will self-seed and return for many years to come. Its old-world charm is perfect for a cottage garden or butterfly garden. And its tall spires are ideal for adding vertical interest in the landscape or for creating a gorgeous backdrop or tall garden divider.

Double Pink hollyhock grows best in a sunny location with average, medium moist, freely draining soil, but it tolerates light shade and a wide range of soils. Apply a layer of mulch to keep the roots cool and moist. Hollyhocks resist damage from deer.

Plant Double Pink hollyhock roots 2 to 3 inches deep, spaced 24 to 36 inches apart. Soak roots for about an hour before planting in a large, roomy hole with the taproot pointing downward.
