Alcea Spring Celebrities™ 'Lemon', a dwarf hollyhock, is considered a biennial or short-lived perennial offering late spring through midsummer interest. Borne on sturdy spires, large, 3-inch, light-yellow double flowers exude old-world charm and make great cuts for arrangements. The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to the garden.
An herbaceous plant, Alcea Spring Celebrities™ 'Lemon' has a compact habit of large, heart-shaped leaves that requires no staking. Shown to best effect when massed or clumped, hollyhocks are perfect for adding architectural height to the back of borders or for creating a blooming screen of beautiful flowers. But since Alcea Spring Celebrities™ 'Lemon' is compact in size, it can also be grown in a container. Hollyhocks self-seed and produce colonies that return year after year.
Hollyhocks prefer full sun to part shade and average, medium moisture, well-drained loamy soil but tolerate a wide range of soils and some light shade. Deadheading spent flowers encourages additional blooms. The plant is drought tolerant and deer, rabbit, and walnut resistant.
