- Description / Gladiolus 'Nori' Bulbs- 'Nori' is an enormous, large-flowering gladiolus whose robust flowering stems rise above a lush fan of sword-like leaves to an astounding height of 50 to 60 inches. An imposing presence in the summer garden, the striking violet-blue flower wands also make stunning cut flowers for summer bouquets or mixed flower arrangements. - A Gladiolus x hortulanus variety, commonly called gladiolus, glads, or sword lilies, 'Nori' is a perennial in Zones 7-10. For vibrant flower displays, plant 'Nori' gladiolus bulbs in clusters within borders, beds, or containers. Support this taller variety in windy areas by staking it. - 'Nori' gladiolus thrive in sunny to partially shady spots with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil that holds adequate moisture. Amend sandy soils that dry quickly or heavy clay soils that drain poorly with organic matter like peat moss or bark. Fertilize lightly after planting and again during summer with quality plant food. Ensure the plants are watered deeply at planting and consistently during growth and bloom periods. Mulching helps retain moisture and keeps the soil cooler. - Choose a location shielded from strong winds and plant 'Nori' gladiolus bulbs (corms) in spring once the risk of frost has passed. Space bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart and plant them 4 to 6 inches deep. For continuous blooms, stagger plantings every two weeks. After the flowers fade, let the corms grow until the leaves turn brown or frost threatens. Then, lift the corms, clean them, and store in a dry, cool spot (40-50°F) until spring.
