Description / 'Golden Globe' Potato - 2 Pound Bag
Days to Maturity: 85 to 100
'Golden Globe' Potato produces high yields of medium to large round tubers with golden skin and light-yellow flesh with a mild flavor. A gourmet potato, and good alternative for Yukon Gold, they have a rich, sweet, buttery flavor; a waxy texture; and a low starch content. Potatoes are a good source of dietary fiber, magnesium, and potassium.
An herbaceous perennial, typically grown as an annual, 'Golden Globe' Potato is a member of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). The medium to large vigorous vining plant blooms in white flowers and produces high yields of potatoes that store very well. The plants have low bruise potential and are resistant to PVY, leaf roll virus, storage rot, and black leg, and have medium resistance to common scab and early blight.
Potatoes grow best in sunny locations with fertile, well-draining soil, having an acidic pH. For best texture and flavor, soils should be kept evenly moist until flowering stops. Then, cut water in half.
A cool-season vegetable, one of the first to be planted in the garden, potato can be direct sown into the garden in early spring 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost date. It needs cold temperatures to germinate and grow and tolerates moderate frost.
