  • Description / Anemone 'Mr. Fokker' Windflower Bulbs

Plant Anemone 'Mr. Fokker' bulbs in fall (warm climates) or early spring after the last frost (cold climates), and in late spring to early the next summer, the bulbs bloom in large, open-faced flowers super saturated in dark blue and having a large, dark eye. Borne singly atop long, sturdy stems up to 12 to 18 inches tall, the velvety, poppy-like blooms make dramatic cut flowers and attract butterflies to the garden.

An Anemone coronaria cultivar, commonly called wind flower, 'Mr. Fokker' is a rhizomatous perennial (Zones 7-10) with a clumping, mounded habit of finely divided, ferny, medium green foliage. With its low-growing habit, it makes a great ground cover and a good choice for woodland and rock gardens. 'Mr. Fokker' is shown to best effect when planted in large, sweeping drifts, with about 16 bulbs per square foot. But it's also a good container choice. 'Mr. Fokker' wind flowers are the perfect companion for late daffodils and later blooming tulips.

Extremely easy to grow, Anemone 'Mr. Fokker' thrives in acid, alkaline, neutral, sandy, and loamy soils. Full sun is preferred but some light shade is tolerated, especially in hot areas. Fertilize in spring when foliage begins to push through the soil. 'Mr. Fokker' anemone is deer and rabbit resistant.

Spring-flowering bulbs are hardy and require a "dormant" period of cold temperatures to stimulate their root development. Plant 'Mr. Fokker' anemone bulbs 3 to 6 inches apart and 2 to 3 inches deep. In Zones 3-6, lift the bulbs in fall.

The small corms must be soaked in lukewarm for several hours, preferably overnight, before planting.
