Description / Carya Pecan Tree Collection
This Pecan Tree Collection contains 3 Carya illinoinensis varieties: Stuart, Mahan, and Colby, which will ensure proper pollination for bountiful harvests of large, classic pecans in October and November. These North American native trees grow well from Illinois to Florida and across the south to Texas. Nice shade trees, they typically reach a mature size of 70 to 100 feet tall with a large, rounded canopy that's 40 to 80 feet wide. Besides being delicious, pecans are considered heart healthy, containing 87% unsaturated fatty acid and antioxidant properties that reduce the bad LDL cholesterol levels. They also are high in vitamins and minerals that are important to overall health.
Plant pecan tree root stock in spring after all threat of frost has passed, spacing trees 40 feet apart. Dig a hole that is at least 2 feet wide and 3 feet deep and back fill with well-draining soil before planting. Prune trees to encourage vigorous growth and rabid establishment.
