  • Description / Malus White Icicle™ Columnar Apple

Malus White Icicle™ Columnar Apple cultivar is valued not only for fruit production but also for ornamental purposes and fits beautifully into an edible landscape. A dwarf columnar variety, White Icicle grows to about 8 feet high. It has virtually no branches and bears fruit along the main trunk. This elegant, stately apple tree is perfect for small spaces and can even be grown in large patio containers and pruned heavily to maintain its small size.

An early season variety, White Icicle™ becomes a striking pillar of snow-white flowers in spring followed by an abundant crop of large, attractive, red fruit in early September. It yields 50 plus, white-fleshed, aromatic, apples that are crisp, juicy, and sweet, good for fresh eating, baking, canning, and cider making.

Apple trees require cross-pollination at blossom time for fruit to develop. Cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen, typically by honeybees and mason bees, from one variety to a different variety of the same type tree. The tree fruits 1 to 2 years after planting and attracts the all-important honeybees. Keep in mind that most pesticides are toxic to bees and should not be used during bloom time. Bees are most active when the temperature is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit and winds are below 10 miles an hour. For best pollination place two or more trees within 100 feet of each other. A greater distance between them may result in poor pollination. White Icicle's characteristic pillar-like growth habit allows 2 or more trees to be planted closer together. White Icicle™ is very resistant to apple scab.

This tree was developed from Geneva 202 root stock and a non-GMO item, grown with sustainable and ecologically sound growing practices. It is 1 to 2 feet tall when shipped.
