  • Description / Paeonia 'Shimadaijin'

'Shimadaijin' is a tree peony, which differs from herbaceous garden peonies. Tree peonies have woody stems like a shrub, and unlike herbaceous varieties, the branches do not die back to the ground in winter and should not be cut back after frost. The remaining branches add interest to the winter garden and dried seed heads feed hungry birds.

A rare Imperial peony, this deciduous, woody shrub blooms from late spring into early summer in very large, 8-inch, semi-double flowers that are fragrant and an exquisite shade of rich magenta purple—perfect for cutting.

The plant makes a great accent or specimen in the garden, but it's perfect for general garden use and mass planting.

Uses: Border, Cut Flower, Cut Foliage, Dried Flower, Specimen, Container, Mixed Beds, Mass Plantings
