Description / Lamium 'Beacon Silver'
Lamium 'Beacon Silver' is a semi-evergreen (evergreen in mild winter climates) perennial groundcover offering late spring to fall interest, with sporadic flowering continuing into fall. Long blooming, the plant sets attractive whorls of small, hooded, lavender flowers at stem ends. The flowers attract bees.
A Lamium maculatum cultivar, commonly called spotted deadnettle, Lamium 'Beacon Silver' is an herbaceous plant with a low-growing, mat-forming, and spreading habit of heart-shaped, silvery leaves with narrow green edges. The plant grows vigorously and spreads by sprawling, rooting stems but is not considered too aggressive; however, it may need to be controlled in some situations. Typically grown as a groundcover, it is perfect for underplanting around shrubs or perennials but also works well as edging. It is suitable for beds, borders, patio pots, and hanging baskets.
Low maintenance, Lamium 'Beacon Silver' prefers part to full shade and moist, humusy, well-drained soils, but it tolerates a wide variety of soils, including chalk, clay, and loams with an acid, alkaline, or neutral pH. Spotted deadnettle is deer and rabbit resistant, virtually disease and pest free, and drought tolerant. But it dislikes heat and humidity.
