Lilium 'Purple Lady' is a statuesque lily that grows to the size of a small tree, attaining its full 4 to 5 feet typically by its third year of growth. A late bloomer, 'Purple Lady' sets massive, trumpet-shaped flowers with recurved petals in summer. The waxy pink blooms have a lavender-blue sheen, rose-pink speckles, and a sweet scent that attracts pollinators, including butterflies and hummingbirds. Borne on strong stalks clad with strappy dark green leaves, they make excellent, long-lasting cut flowers, popular in wedding bouquets and mixed arrangements.
A Lilium x asiaticum, commonly called tree lily, 'Purple Lady' is a hardy perennial (Zones 5-9) that can remain in the ground all winter, making it an excellent choice for gardeners in cooler climates. Its upright habit makes it ideal for planting in groups or masses, whether in garden beds, borders, containers, or patio pots. 'Purple Lady' tree lily is also highly valued in cutting gardens, where its prolific, huge, and colorful blooms stand out as stunning cut flowers.
Thriving in sunny spots with 6 to 8 hours of full sunlight, 'Purple Lady' tree lilies also grow well in partial shade.
