Tulipa Easter Basket Mix is a multicolor mix that consists of several varieties from the Flag series. These triumph tulips boast large, angular, cup-shaped blooms saturated in pastel Easter egg colors. They stand between 15 and 20 inches tall on sturdy stems above attractive strappy glaucous-green leaves, defying wind and rain. Their combined beauty creates a bright and fresh spring-garden canvas and tasteful bouquets for your vases.
In ideal growing conditions, Easter Basket Mix tulips may naturalize and return for several years. These well-bred tulips are perfect for patio pots, and triumph tulips are some of the best for forcing indoors for winter displays. Tulips are great bed and border plants that work beautifully in any style garden, but they're a must-have for cottage, informal, and rock gardens. With careful planning and by planting several varieties of tulips with differing bloom times, you can have a consistent succession of color until summer flowers begin blooming.
Cold hardy to Zone 3, Easter Basket Mix tulips are super easy to grow and maintain. Tulips grow best in sunny to partially shady locations. Some light shade may extend their bloom time by keeping them cool, especially in warmer climates. Tulips prefer average to nutrient-rich, free-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. When planting, be sure to allow adequate space between bulbs and plant them at the proper depth4 to 8 inches apart and 4 to 8 inches deep. For robust flowering during the current season as well as the following spring season, feed bulbs with a well-balanced fertilizer, such as Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food, as soon as growth begins in spring. Remove spent flowers immediately but allow the leaves to turn yellow and wither before removing. In USDA Zones 8-10, refrigerate the bulbs for no less than eight weeks.
