Description / Curcuma 'Twitter' Ornamental Turmeric Bulbs
Curcuma 'Twitter' is a deciduous perennial that blooms in summer. An elegant, long-blooming beauty, the plant flowers abundantly in showy spires of petal-like pink bracts with bright green tips surrounding small white true flowers and repeat blooms throughout summer and into late fall. Borne singly, each flower sits atop a rigid stem that makes a nice cut flower.
This easy to grow rhizomatous plant, also known as ornamental turmeric or a Siam tulip, has an upright habit of narrow, lance-shaped, medium green leaves. A tropical species and member of the ginger family, curcuma thrives in climates with hot, high-humidity summers. The plant grows best in sunny to partly shady locations with mildly acidic to neutral, moist, well-draining soil. Curcuma needs consistent moisture throughout the growing season in full sun and should never be allowed to dry out. For optimal performance, add organic matter, such as compost, to soils with high sand and clay content before planting and add one of our soil enhancers in spring and summer. It requires no deadheading and is deer resistant.
Consider planting in large groups or as an accent to blue salvia, euvolvulus, and caladium.
*NOTE: Curcuma is not intended for animal or human consumption
