Description / Cyclamen coum Persian Violet Bulbs
Plant Cyclamen coum Persian Violet in fall, and in late winter or early spring, it rises 8 to 12 inches tall, spreads between 6 and 8 inches, and blooms in pretty purple flowers that appear like butterflies hovering above a mound of rounded, heart-shaped leaves with attractive silvery marbling.
A Cyclamen coum cultivar, commonly called cyclamen or Persian violet, this tuberous perennial has a low-growing, mounding habit and will self-seed to form large colonies over time, creating vast swathes of purple bloomsperfect for a woodland planting or wild garden. Persian violets look their best when planted in big groups or masses. They work well in flower beds, borders, and containers and are nice as underplanting for roses and shrubs.
Persian violets grow easily in areas with full sun or light shade and soil that's free draining but not too dry in summer. In the wild, Persian violets often grow in areas with significant rainfall, but soils should not be soggy. Plant bulbs 6 to 8 inches apart and 2 to 3 inches deep, water well to settle bulbs, and feed with a well-balanced fertilizer. Allow foliage to die naturally and remove only after fully wilting. Leaves continue to absorb nourishment that feeds the bulb, which improves future growth and blooming.
