Espoma Organic® Bio-tone® Starter Plus Plant Food

This amazingly effective organic fertilizer mixes with soil or potting mix to minimize transplant loss, help young plants establish strong root system, encourage nutrient intake, and prevent disease. Containing vital plant nutrients, bacteria, and fungi (micorrhizae), it also assists in soil aeration and water retention. Formulated to provide plants with all the key nutrients they need, Bio-tone® Starter Plus contains 4% nitrogen (1.6% water soluble, 2.4% water insoluble), 3% phosphate, 3% soluble potash, 4% calcium, 1% magnesium, and 2% sulfur. Just as important, it contains beneficial microbes to add in plant growth. Bio-tone® contains both ectomycorrhizae (the type that live on the surface of plant roots) and endomycorrhizae (which live within root cells). These fungi make the phosphorus your plants need easier to "digest," as well as delivering other soil nutrients to the roots.

To apply Bio-tone®, simply work all 4 pounds into a 100-square-foot area of soil, blending to a depth of 6 inches. Or, to add to potting mixes, use 1 cup of Bio-tone® per cubic foot. It lasts all season.

Application Rates:
Flower Beds: Mix 4 pounds (12 cups) per 100 square feet into the top 4 to 6 inches of soil.
Bulbs: Place 1 teaspoon per bulb in the hole prior to planting.
Potting Mixes: Mix 9 pounds per cubic yard or 1 cup per cubic foot.
New Lawns (seed or sod): Apply 25 pounds per 1,000 square feet prior to seeding or installing sod.
Planting Trees & Shrubs: Mix thoroughly with backfill soil.
