Subtle fragrance that will delight!
Freesias are native of South Africa and are some of our favorite bulbs with their dramatic upward facing blossoms in a range of bright colors and a citrusy scent. Each freesia stem produces five to ten tubluar flowers in the late spring through the early summer. The blooms grow on only one side of the stem creating a dramatic display. The stems turn at right angles just below the lowest flower, which results in blossoms that face the sky to attract both pollinators and complements from passerby's. This showy blooms make freesias perfect for cut flower arrangements. Freesias need full sun and cool night temperatures. Keep them well watered. When the leaves begin to brown after the flowers have faded, the plants may be gradually dried off and the corms saved for the following year so you can enjoy them season after season.
Freesia Blue Bayou has incredible purple blooms that will attract birds and other pollinators and will delight you with it's lovely fragrance. They are incredible in beds, borders, and containers. Freesias are deer resistant, drought tolerant, and low maintenance so there's no reason not to add these stunners to your garden.
Note: These bulbs are dry cooled to ensure the highest industry standards. Each bulb variety has a particular start time in order to meet specific cooling requirements so that when growers receive the bulbs they are ready for an 8 week pot chilling process and growers do not have to endure a cooling process themselves.
A Tradition of Distinction

Since its founding in 1920, Wayside Gardens has brought the rarest and highest-quality plants to the garden market. Wayside was founded in 1920 by two acclaimed growers who came together to pursue their shared vision of marketing all high-end plants for the serious garden enthusiast. Originally located in Mentor, Ohio, Wayside Gardens swiftly grew a reputation for the highest-quality plants and the most sophisticated clientele. In 1975, Wayside was purchased by the Park Seed Company, and moved to Hodges, SC. The company has flourished since then, growing to become an undisputed leader in rare and unique plant growing.

With Wayside's bulbs, growing gorgeous flowers is as easy as Dig, Drop, Done.
Dig:
The first thing you want to do is pick your spot and dig the hole for your bulbs. Avoid places with standing water, as this could cause bulb rot. A good rule of thumb when planting is to dig down 3 times the height of the bulb, but you should follow the specific instructions for your bulb. Make sure to space out your bulbs to give your plants the right amount of room to grow later.
Drop:
Now put your bulbs in the ground, pointy side up. For fall planting, be sure to get the bulbs in before the first frost. For spring planting, the time varies by plant. Afterwards, cover the bulbs with soil and then water them in. This helps wake the bulbs up from dormancy and get them growing again.
Now you're Done!
Just sit back and wait, and in the spring your bulbs will sprout up and reward you with their beautiful blooms throughout the season. Growing flowers from Wayside bulbs really is that easy!
