Description / Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun'

All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2005

Fleuroselect Gold Medal winner 2005

Many of us remember when the seed version of this exciting blanket flower was introduced in 2005. Immediately sweeping top honors, it was hailed as a breeding breakthrough because Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' was the first-ever gaillardia not to need a cold period to stimulate its blooms. American gardeners fell in love with this bright daisy, and the plant form is just as popular, bringing you all that vigorous growth and long bloomtime even sooner.

Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' covers itself in 4-inch daisies of orange and red with yellow tips, so bright and cheery. The flowers are daisy shaped and face upwards, covering the foliage at the height of their season. And Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' is a very compact plant, just a foot high and not quite as wide, which makes the big show all the more impressive.

This selection of a Native American perennial starts blooming with the first breath of hot summer weather and continues, in most climates, right through fall until nipped back by frost. That's an incredible season of color—and on a plant that is quite easy to grow.

Long-lived and adaptable to just about any area of the country, Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' asks only for full sun and good soil drainage. Heat, humidity, drought, cold, poor soil—all of these it can, and will, handle with ease. You won't believe its staying power.
