Description / Hemerocallis 'Stella de Oro'

'Stella de Oro' is the most famous daylily in the world, and once you grow this powerhouse, you will understand why. The yellow blooms just keep coming, month after month, dozen after many dozen, on super-tough, eminently gardenworthy plants.

All Hemerocallis are easy to grow, but 'Stella' outdoes itself in flower production and eagerness to spread and mltiply in the garden. These flowers are 2½ to 2¾ inches wide, and a mature plant will set more than 400 of them in a single season. Divide the plant every few years, and you will soon have a 'Stella' meadow!

Beating most other daylilies into bloom in late spring and outlasting them into fall, 'Stella de Oro' is a foolproof perennial no sunny garden should be without. The plant itself is just about 2 feet high and wide, very full and bushy with long, strap-like foliage held below the blooms. Pamper it the first season or two so that it "finds its feet" in your garden, and then watch it take off.

Impervious to heat, humidity, drought, cold, poor soil, and other environmental stresses, 'Stella de Oro' is the top choice of new gardeners as well as seasoned veterans. You simply can't go wrong with this low maintenance over-achiever. Give it a try in the sunny border, meadow garden, or foundation this season, and you will soon be singing its praises. Zones 4-9.
