Description / Rosa Intrigue

Heady citrus-rose fragrance and an utterly unique bloom color make this floribunda a must-have for every Rose lover. I kept coming back to it in a field of more than 300 varieties, drawn by the nicely rounded plant heavily studded with richly perfumed flowers. No other color can touch its blend of warm red and cool blue tones combined into a royal plum purple. And there's a bouquet of blooms on every stem.

Intrigue's flowers begin as high-pointed buds of deep reddish purple, which arise profusely over the bushy, well-branched little shrub. They open to 3 inches across, with exquisite hybrid tea symmetry and a high petal count. Just about the only difference is that instead of getting a solitary bloom per stem, you'll enjoy 3 to 4 in every cluster. No wonder Intrigue won the All-America Rose Selection—beauty, form, great garden performance, AND sheer abundance are unbeatable assets.

The fragrance is just as rewarding as the bloom color and number. Primarily citrus, it is overlaid with a luscious sweet rose aroma that you'll find irresistible. The combination of fresh, clean lemon and sweet tea is hard to find and highly addictive.

Intrigue quickly forms a rounded, dense shrub 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, with dark green foliage that stays fresh from early spring through fall. It makes a nice low hedge along the sun-soaked driveway, and is a good size for a foundation planting, patio accent, and mixed border standout. It flowers best if fed heavily during the growth season. Space plants 3 feet apart for a good, solid line of color.

I ordered a Floribunda Rosa Intrigue. It was delivered bare root without foliage or green stems. I followed the instructions for transplanting to a container, but it did not grow. Wayside Gardens replaced it free, which is why I’m giving 3 stars. Unfortunately the second rose which arrived green with a few leaves did not thrive either. The leaves dried up and it’s all brown now. From the looks of it the cane dried up below the graft so it seems likely the roots never took.
