Description

A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Kolkwitzia Jolene Jolene™ is a deciduous shrub that blooms for several weeks in early summer. Extremely floriferous, the plant blankets its attractive foliage with clusters of star-shaped flowers at every node. The small baby pink blooms have a bright yellow throat and a slight, sweet, floral fragrance that attracts bees and butterflies. Mature stems have exfoliating light grayish brown bark that extends the season of interest into winter.

Highly adaptable, Kolkwitzia Jolene Jolene has a rapid growth rate and a compact form that is especially nice for planting under trees. Its upright, outwardly spreading, uniformly mounding, weeping habit makes it a lovely specimen or an excellent flowering hedge or screen. But this beautybush is also a great foundation plant, background plant in beds, and all-purpose landscape plant.

Kolkwitzia Jolene Jolene is tough, low maintenance, and easy to grow, growing best in sunny to dappled sun locations with average, medium moist, well-draining soil, having a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. But it adapts to poor soils, including clay. The plant likes dry shade and is drought tolerant. It is also deer and black walnut resistant. Since beautybush blooms on old wood, any desired pruning should be done immediately after the spring bloom. Pruning not only gives the plant a tidy appearance but also increases bloom the following year.
