Description / Lupinus Mini Gallery™ Blue

Lupinus Mini Gallery™ Blue is a showy perennial offering early summer interest. Highly floriferous and early blooming, the plant sets elongated terminal clusters dense with pea-like, bicolor, blue and white blooms. Borne on stout stems rising above the foliage, the flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds to the garden and make excellent cuts for the vase or for arrangements.

A Lupinus polyphyllus variety, commonly called bigleaf lupine, Lupinus Mini Gallery™ Blue is a robust herbaceous plant with an upright, compact habit of large, palmate, green leaves, with many leaflets, growing into a well-established clump. The distinctive foliage is a popular addition to floral arrangements. A cottage garden favorite, Lupinus Mini Gallery™ Blue is shown to best effect when massed or grouped in beds and borders, but it also makes an excellent thriller (focal point) in a container garden.

Easy to grow and low maintenance, lupines prefer full sun to part shade and rich, moderately fertile, slightly acidic to neutral, evenly moist, well-drained soils. The plants grow best in cooler climates, when days are warm and sunny and nights are cool, and are intolerant of extreme summer heat, so mulching may be beneficial to keep roots cool and moist. The plant is salt tolerant and deer resistant.

A native plant, Lupinus Mini Gallery™ Blue is indigenous to North America. Native plants are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. Naturally adapted to the climate and soil conditions of the region, they thrive without fertilizers or extra watering, once established. They also act as natural pest controls, reducing the need for pesticides in the garden. Landscaping with native plants promotes biodiversity and provides shelter and quality food for wildlife and pollinators, bringing gardens to life.

MINI GALLERY™ Lupines are more compact, earlier blooming, and more floriferous than the Gallery Series and shorter in height than the popular Popsicle Series.
