Mertensia virginica, commonly known as Virginia bluebells, is an erect, clump forming perennial which grows in loose clusters of trumpet shaped blue flowers which will fill your garden with color in the early spring. The flower buds are pink and the blooms emerge with a pinkish hue before turning blue all contrasted against blue green foliage. They are easily grown in well drained soil and part to full shade. Virginia bluebells look incredible planted in mass and will be at their best if left undisturbed your shade garden. Use in conjunction with other shade loving perennials like ferns or hostas for a perfect shade garden pairing. Let these blue blooms light up the darkest corners of your landscape.
