Description / 'Nelly Moser' Clematis

Elevate your garden's allure with the 'Clematis Nelly Moser,' a large-flowered Clematis vine that brings timeless elegance and vibrant colors to any space. This easy-to-grow heirloom variety from Wayside Gardens is celebrated for its breathtakingly large, pale pink blooms, accented with distinctive central red bars. The 'Clematis Nelly Moser' ensures a spectacular display of flower power with its 6- to 8-inch flowers, not once but twice each bloom time, thriving in both sun and shade.

Ideal for gardeners who appreciate the charm of large-flowered varieties, 'Clematis Nelly,' as it's affectionately known, is a testament to the beauty that easy-to-grow, deciduous vines can add to wayside gardens. Its shade tolerance is a notable trait, allowing for the richest pink tones to emerge when planted in well-drained soils with a bit of shade. This deciduous vine bursts into a profusion of blooms in early summer, with a second, more modest showing in early fall, extending the bloom time and ensuring your garden remains a focal point of interest through the seasons.

Introduced in 1897 and quickly becoming a garden staple, this Clematis vine reaches impressive heights and widths of 6 to 10 feet, often larger in the garden than in containers, demonstrating its vigorous growth habit. As a Group II Clematis for pruning purposes, 'Nelly Moser' asks for patience as it finds its footing, but soon enough, it leaps up, covering trellises, walls, and fences in splendid floral drapery.

Hardy in Zones 4-8, 'Clematis Nelly Moser' is a perfect choice for gardeners seeking a combination of easy care and stunning visual appeal. It thrives in well-drained soils, making it a versatile addition to a variety of garden settings. Whether you're looking to enhance the beauty of your wayside garden or introduce an easy-to-grow, large-flowered climber to your outdoor collection, 'Clematis Nelly Moser' promises to transform your space with its heirloom charm and delightful blooms.

Explore the joy of gardening with 'Clematis Nelly Moser' and other exceptional deciduous vines at Wayside Gardens. Embrace the ease and beauty of growing large-flowered Clematis vines and let 'Clematis Nelly' inspire a season full of color and life in your garden.

does well in shade
Review by Sandy
Several years ago I planted 5 Nelly Moshers on trellises spaced along a wooden fence under a crab apple, a large burning bush and a catalpa tree, and they bloom wonderfully. They have grown up the trellises and have tumbled over the fence to the other side.
