Description
At the first glance of this Lenten rose, a multitude of adjectives at once come to mind: captivating, charming, dainty, precious ... you get the picture. The 2- to 3-inch double flowers, speckled and veined, shaded rosy pink (perfect for posies), are all those things; but this winter-blooming hellebore is also easy to grow, drought and salt tolerant, and hardy in a wide range of climatic zones.
Hans Hansen hybridized Maid of Honor and selected it for its notable vigor and profuse blooms of exceptional color. It is best planted in large groups in dappled sunlight and moist soil, especially in naturalized areas where it can be allowed to slowly spread. Its dark evergreen foliage makes it an attractive year-round ground cover.
