'Renkaku' is a tree peony, which differs from herbaceous garden peonies. Tree peonies have woody stems like a shrub, and unlike herbaceous varieties, the branches do not die back to the ground in winter and should not be cut back after frost. The remaining branches add interest to the winter garden. This variety grows faster and blooms earlier than some.
An elegant deciduous, woody shrub, it blooms in very large, 8-inch, semidouble flowers with satiny petals, delicately fringed and pure white. The blooms are upward facing, lightly fragrant, and perfect for cutting.
The plant makes a great accent or specimen in the garden, but it's perfect for general garden use and mass planting. It also fits nicely in a container.
