Description

Hass Avocado Tree is valued not only for fruit production but also for ornamental purposes and can fit beautifully into an edible landscape. In late spring, the tree blooms in clusters of greenish white blossoms. Hass has a long harvest season, typically from spring through fall, depending on Zone, and produces high yields of large—10- to 12-ounce—fruit with a rough, pebbly rind that turns black when ripe. The flesh is smooth and creamy with a rich, nutty flavor. The fruits ripen only after they are picked, and they can be left on the tree long after they have matured.

Hass Avocado Tree, a Guatemalan A-type, is a tropical, multistemmed, broadleaf evergreen that grows vigorously. This large tree reaches 25 to 35 feet tall at maturity and makes an excellent specimen, but it can also be trained as an espalier. It is not recommended for container planting.

Hass Avocado Tree grows best in sunny locations with rich, loose, evenly moist, normal to loamy, well-draining soil. The plants are heat and humidity tolerant and pest resistant. Applying fertilizer just before flower bud break is critical for good avocado production. The tree is self-pollinating and will bear fruit without any pollen from other varieties, but the fruit crop will be better if two trees, an A-type with a B-type, are planted together. Avocado trees can take years to establish and begin to fruit, but they can live for several decades.

Plant height is 18-36" when shipped.
