Description / Lilium Fragrant Blend Oriental Lily Bulbs
Lilium Fragrant Blend contains a mix of Oriental lilies, known as the "jewels of the garden." Aptly named, this mix features highly fragrant flowers with a spicy scent. Borne on strong, rigid stems covered in lance-shaped leaves, the flamboyant flowers rise 36 to 48 inches tall and bloom mid to late summer in a beautifully balanced blend of white, yellow, and pink colors. These exquisite beauties make perfect cut flowers for summer bouquets.
Fragrant Blend features Lilium x oriental, better known as Oriental lilies. These hardy perennials (Zones 3-8) can remain in the ground all winter, making them an excellent choice for gardeners in cooler climates. Their upright habit makes them ideal for planting in groups or masses, whether in garden beds, borders, containers, or patio pots. Oriental lilies are also highly valued in cutting gardens, where their colorful blooms stand out as stunning cut flowers. When harvesting the Fragrant Blend flowers, only remove 1/3 of the stem, no more, to leave enough foliage to renew the bulb for the following year's growth.
Thriving in sunny spots with 6 to 8 hours of sunlight, Fragrant Blend Oriental lilies also do well in partial shade. To protect their roots from heat, apply mulch and plant low-growing companions for added shade at their base. Oriental lilies grow best in nutrient-rich, medium-moist, well-drained soil but will grow well in average garden soils. Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging to prevent bulb rot. Remove spent flowers immediately but only cut back the stems and foliage after they turn yellow. Deer and critters tend to avoid these hardy lilies, making them a low-maintenance garden addition.
Plant Fragrant Blend bulbs 6 to 8 inches deep and 6-8 inches apart in early spring to enjoy their vibrant summer blooms.
