Description / Paeonia 'High Noon'
Yellow tree peonies are rare, and this variety produces striking clusters of sunny semidouble blooms. These flowers are exquisite. For one thing, they are enormous, reaching 6 to 10 inches across, 2 to 3 times larger than regular peonies. They also have a sweet lemony scent, and of course, they have exceptional colorgolden yellow with a red flare at the base of the petals.
An upright form, its stems and branches growing upward, 'High Noon' is an excellent display plant. The medium green foliage of deeply divided, oval- to lance-shaped leaflets remains throughout the season, so it's attractive even when not in bloom. Slow growing, at maturity, the "tree" reaches between 3 and 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide, and with the lower leaves removed, exposing its woody structure, it will have the appearance of a small tree and add nice architecture to the garden.
