Description
Introduced to the nursery trade in 1867 by R. Smith at H. Rogers & Son Nurseries, Chandler Ford, United Kingdom, Nana Gracilis is very oldover a century oldbut it's still one of the most popular dwarf conifers today.
The attractive shell-shaped sprays of dark green foliage on this dwarf hinoki cypress are evergreen, so it offers year-round interest. It's slow growing, 3-6" a year, and has a multitude of uses: it can stand alone as a small accent or specimen in Japanese and cottage gardens, or it can be grouped as foundation plants and hedges. Just keep in mind, it should be planted in a location with full to dappled sunlight, sheltered from the wind, and the young irregularly globose specimen becomes broadly conical as it ages.
Hardy and low maintenance.
