Description
A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Viburnum Spice Girl® is a deciduous shrub that flowers in early spring. Borne on old wood, the flowers emerge deep reddish pink and mature to blush white. The large, fragrant clusters attract pollinators, including bees and butterflies.
Spice Girl has an upright habit and vigorous growth, much stronger than other V. carlesii varieties, which are commonly called Snowball Bush or Koreanspice. It's a lovely specimen but is shown to best effect massed or grouped in beds, borders, or foundation plantings. And it makes a great hedge or privacy screen.
Cold hardy and easy care, snowball bush grows best in sunny to partly sunny locations with moist, slightly acidic, well-draining soils but adapts to most soils, except very wet ones. Spice Girl is shade tolerant, but best flowering and fall color occurs with a minimum of 4 to 6 hours of sun a day. Any desired pruning should be done immediately after flowering.
