The Greek words for this shrub means "beauty" and "fruit," and it definitely lives up to its name. Birds love the deep purple and pink berries which adorn this deciduous shrub bush from June to August.

The berries hold their beauty for a long time and the stems can be used in cuttings or arrangements. Grouping several together will promote blooming, and each bush can grow from three to six feet high and three to six feet wide, and up to 9 feet high in favorable conditions.

Perfect for ornamental gardens, borders or to hedge the back rows of larger landscaping plots. It prefers well-drained, moist soil with part shade. It thrives best in clay-based or rich, organic soil. This captivating shrub prefers zones 7 to 10.

Love my beautyberry
Jean from VA wrote (December 28, 2015):
I have my beautyberry outside my dining room window and love to watch the birds dine when I do. Mine has reached 7 feet, but I understand you can cut it back to be more like a bush. Love the intense purple berries.
