Caryopteris Beekeeper™ Bluebeard

A Bloomin' Easy® variety, Caryopteris Beekeeper™ was bred with busy young homeowners and their modern-sized outdoor spaces in mind, fitting into small spaces nicely and having an easy-care attitude, requiring little maintenance. An improved variety of Caryopteris (commonly called bluebeard), Beekeeper is even more beautiful and easy going than most. This finely textured deciduous shrub has a diminutive, well-kept form, staying between 2 and 3 feet tall and wide. It's attractive even before it blooms; but summer through fall, bright cornflower blue flower clusters simply "pop" against its vibrant chartreuse foliage. And you know with a name like Beekeeper, this bluebeard is bee haunted, but it actually calls to all pollinatorS, including butterflies and hummingbirds. Leaves turn slightly greener in summer and stay healthy looking, neither burning nor spotting.

Beekeeper is a natural for a pollinator, butterfly, or cutting garden. It makes a lovely specimen in garden or container but is shown to best effect when massed or grouped in mixed beds, borders, or as a low hedge.

Plant bluebeards in locations with 4 to 6 hours of full sun a day and in soil with good drainage. Beekeeper thrives in Zones 5-9, tolerating cold temperatures down to -20°F (-29°C) and the heat. But in hotter weather, keep the plant well-watered, more than its typical once a week watering. Beekeeper is also a pet friendly plant.
