  • Description / Freesia Double Blooming Mix Bulbs

Freesia Double Blooming Mix varieties typically set flowers in summer. In areas with mild climates (Zones 9-10), plant freesia bulbs in fall. In regions with cold winters, plant bulbs in early spring after the threat of frost has passed and pull them to overwinter. These double freesia varieties have an ornate appearance with abundant clusters of up to 8 trumpet-shaped flowers filled with petals giving them a very full look. Upward facing, the bold-colored blooms grow on leafless stems that rise 12 to 24 inches tall. Popular among gardeners and pollinators alike, they have a strong, sweet scent that brings in the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds we all love. Freesias are among the world's most popular cut flowers, with delicate, long-lasting blooms that are perfect for bouquets and mixed floral arrangements.

Freesia hybrids, commonly called freesia, Double Blooming mix varieties have an upright habit. Freesias look their best when grouped or planted in sweeping drifts through garden flower beds and borders. But they are a must-have in a cutting garden, and bulbs can be planted every 2 weeks in spring to extend their blooming season. Freesias can also be grown in pretty pots, indoors or out.

Plant Freesia Double Blooming mix bulbs 2 inches apart and 2 inches deep. For sweeping drifts, plant about 16 bulbs per square foot. Freesias are easy to grow if planted in a sunny to partially shady spot with medium moist soil that drains freely. Feed bulbs with Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food once growth begins. In USDA Zones cooler than 9, the corms will not survive the winter, and they should be dug up should you want to over winter them.
