Description / Coreopsis Solar Jewel Tickseed
Coreopsis Jewel, a member of the Solar series, is a perennial wildflower that grows 20 inches tall and 18 inches wide and blooms profusely and continuously from early summer into autumn. Adding a cheery note to the garden, the multicolored flowers have cherry red rays with pale yellow margins surrounding a golden eye. They sit perched atop a lush, bushy mound of healthy, fresh-green foliage that maintains its bright, robust, and vibrant appearance throughout the season. Nectar-rich, these long-lasting blooms sustain pollinators, including bees and butterflies, and make adorable summer bouquets.
A Coreopsis grandiflora, commonly called tickseed or large-flowered tickseed, Coreopsis Solar Jewel has a compact, upright, bushy habit and a moderate to highly vigorous growth rate, so it quickly fills a patio pot or small-space garden bed or border. This little wildflower makes gorgeous specimen but looks its best when mass planted. Coreopsis Solar Jewel is a great option for a rock garden and is a must-have in a pollinator garden.
Cold hardy to Zone 4, easy to grow, and low maintenance, Solar Jewel tickseed grows best in a sunny spot with average to dry, freely draining soil but it adapts to a wide variety of soils, including poor and sandy soils. The deer- and disease-resistant plant stands up to heat and humidity and tolerates drought. Pruning after flowering encourages a second flush of blooms.
