  • Description / Mangave Art & Sol® 'Tooth Fairy'

A member of the Proven Winners® Art & Sol® collection, 'Tooth Fairy' is a compact succulent, reaching 10 to 12 inches tall and 16 to 18 inches wide. 'Tooth Fairy' mangave adds a strong architectural element to garden or container with its upright rosette of thick, lanceolate blue-green leaves that have long, prominent marginal and apical teeth that change color from yellow to orange and cinnamon brown as the plant matures.

A second-generation intergeneric cross of Manfreda x Agave, Mangave 'Tooth Fairy' is a frost-tender herbaceous plant that combines the best features of agaves and manfredas. It retains its heat and drought tolerance from its Agave parentage and its moderate to rapid growth rate from Manfreda. In southern Zones (9-11), 'Tooth Fairy' can be grown as a perennial, but in more northern Zones, it must be overwintered as a houseplant or grown as an annual.

A perfect fit for modern gardens, 'Tooth Fairy' has a versatile upright, mounded habit. 'Tooth Fairy' is a stunning solitary specimen or a massing plant in garden beds and borders, and it's a good companion plant for agastache, ajuga, dianthus, iberis, lavandula, and sedum. A xerophytic plant, 'Tooth Fairy' requires minimal water once established, making it a good option for xeriscapes, rock, alpine, and waterwise gardens. However, it thrives in a wide range of moisture conditions and can be combined with annuals, succulents, and tropicals in a container, and it makes an exciting thriller in a mixed container garden.

'Tooth Fairy' tolerates heat, drought, and poor soils and will perform in those sunny, hot, dry or hard to water areas in the garden. But it grows best in average to medium moist, well-draining soil. Mangave is deer and rabbit resistant. Apply Organic Diehard™ Transplant Stress Relief, a one-time application, to 'Tooth Fairy' to give your plant the best possible start.

Mangave 'Tooth Fairy' has native parentage, indigenous to arid and semi-arid regions of Central and North America. Native plants are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. Naturally adapted to the climate and soil conditions of the region, they thrive without fertilizers or extra watering, once established. They also act as natural pest controls, reducing the need for pesticides in the garden. Landscaping with native plants promotes biodiversity and provides shelter and quality food for wildlife and pollinators, bringing gardens to life.
