Description / Limelight Hydrangea

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit

Discover the unparalleled beauty and resilience of the Limelight Hydrangea, a Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Shrub and standout variety within the Hydrangea family that captivates with its large clusters of blooms in hues of lime, white, pink, and rose. This cold-hardy shrub is a testament to the easy-to-grow nature of hydrangeas, offering a spectacular display from midsummer through fall.

The Limelight hydrangea is celebrated for its massive, pointed panicle bloom clusters that span up to 8 inches. The Limelight hydrangea blooms commence the season in a vibrant lime green, gracefully transitioning to a creamy hue that withstands the peak of summer heat. As the cooler temperatures of fall approach, the flowers undergo a stunning transformation, adopting pink tones that eventually deepen to a rich, luxurious red. This dynamic color evolution makes the Limelight hydrangea shrub a focal point in any garden setting.

Ideal for those seeking a hydrangea that combines visual appeal with ease of care, the Limelight hydrangea thrives in a range of conditions. It prefers a mix of full sunlight and partial shade flourishing in moist, well-drained soil. Remarkably heat and drought tolerant, this hydrangea variety is also noted for its extreme cold hardiness, capable of thriving in Zone 3 environments—a rare feat for hydrangeas.

Growing to a majestic height and width of 6 to 8 feet, the Limelight hydrangea forms a large, well-branched, mounded shape that is perfect for woodland gardens, foundations, or as a striking border choice. Not only is this shrub a visual delight, but it also invites you to create fresh and dried bouquets from its abundant hydrangea blooms. Despite this, it's advisable to leave several flowers on the shrub to continue enjoying its beauty for weeks after the petals have dried.

The Limelight hydrangea stands as a testament to the beauty and resilience of hydrangea blooms, embodying the essence of a lime green hydrangea shrub that is both easy to grow and breathtakingly beautiful. Whether you're crafting a serene garden retreat or seeking a durable, eye-catching addition to your landscape, the Limelight hydrangea is an unmatched choice that promises to enchant for seasons to come.

Although i did not purchase mine from here, I felt compelled to let everyone know how fantastic this shrub is. It is a moderate grower, yet the branches are relatively strong. The blooms are so prolific that you can cut some every couple days and you'd never even know the shrub was missing any! It is maintenance free and mine has grown to be about 8 feet tall and wide and is just gorgeous! Don't hesitate to get this, you won't regret it.
