Lilium Tequila Sunrise Blend contains a mix of large-flowering orienpet lilies. These outstanding hybrids combine the best traits of two popular lilies: Oriental lilies and trumpet lilies. Growing 36 to 48 inches tall on strong, rigid stems clad with lance-shaped leaves, these majestic lilies bloom midsummer, setting masses of massive, sweet-smelling, waxy flowers with slightly recurved petals in a variety of orange, yellow, white, and pink hues. They create a grand display in the garden and make excellent cut flowers for summer bouquets and mixed floral arrangements.
Lilium Tequila Sunrise Blend contains Lilium x 'Orienpet' varieties, commonly known as orienpet lilies or OT hybrid lilies. These reliable, winter-hardy perennials (Zones 3-8) are well-suited for overwintering in the ground. With their upright growth habit, these orienpet lilies create an eye-catching display when planted in clusters or masses in garden beds, borders, and containers. Their vibrant blooms are a favorite for cutting gardens, producing stunning flowers perfect for arrangements. When cutting flowers, remove no more than 1/3 of the stem to keep sufficient leaves to renew the bulb for the coming year.
Tequila Sunrise Blend orienpet lilies perform best in locations with 6 to 8 hours of sunlight but will tolerate partial shade. To keep their roots cool, apply mulch and consider planting low-growing companions to shade their base. Orienpet lilies prefer rich, well-draining soil with moderate moisture but adapt well to almost any average soils. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely or stay overly wet, which can lead to bulb rot. Remove faded blooms as they appear and only cut back the foliage once it turns yellow. These lilies are naturally resistant to deer and other critters.
For vibrant summer displays, plant Tequila Sunrise Blend orienpet lily bulbs 6 to 8 inches apart and 6 to 8 inches deep in early spring.
