Description / Ranunculus Double Picotee Buttercup Bulbs
Ranunculus Double Picotee buttercups grow to about 16 inches tall and bloom for several weeks in late spring to early summer, setting large, peony- or rose-like double flowers, with multiple layers of papery white to blushing pink petals flaunting a pretty picotee. Prolific bloomers, the plants set plenty of long-lasting flowers to fill your garden and vases.
A Ranunculus asiaticus species, also known as buttercups or Persian buttercups, Double Picotee is a hardy perennial in Zones 8-10. In colder regions, these vibrant flowers can be grown as annuals or their bulbs (corms) can be lifted and stored for the winter. Buttercups are most striking when planted in groups or masses, whether in garden beds, containers, or small pots.
Double Picotee ranunculus thrives in sunny to partially sunny locations with medium moist, well-draining soil, but best flowering is in full sun. Promptly remove spent blooms to encourage fresh growth, but let the foliage die back naturally, cutting it away only after it fully wilts. Double Picotee is deer resistant, adding to its garden appeal.
Plant Double Picotee buttercup bulbs in warm spring soil once all danger of frost has passed. Space the corms 4 inches apart and 3 inches deep, ensuring the claws face downward. After planting, water the bulbs well to settle them and fertilize with a balanced formula. To encourage faster sprouting, soak the corms in lukewarm water overnight before planting.
