  • Description / Zantedeschia Collection Calla Lily Bulbs

This Calla Collection contains 4 highly popular and boldly colored calla lily varieties: 'Flame', 'Lavender Sensation', 'Majestic Red', and 'Passion Fruit'. You receive 5 bulbs of each variety, individually packaged and labeled. These plants grow to a mature height of about 10 to 24 inches tall. The lush and large, sword- to arrow-like foliage is an incredibly attractive backdrop for the elegant chalice-shaped flowers. Florist favorites, the 2- to 3-inch flowers last a long time in a vase and are gorgeous additions to summer bouquets and mixed flower arrangements.

Calla Collection bulbs are Zantedeschia spp. varieties, commonly called calla lilies. Calla lilies are natives of South Africa. In Zones 8-10, the plants are tender perennials, but in cooler climates, they are often grown as annuals or houseplants, and they grow equally well in garden or container, outdoors or indoors, with 3 bulbs usually filling a 10- to 12-inch pot. Calla lilies are excellent specimen plants, but they look their best when massed or grouped, especially in beds and borders.

Virtually trouble free, calla lilies grow easily and flower best in sunny locations, but they will tolerate partial shade, especially in hot summer climates, where full morning sun and afternoon shade may prove preferrable. The plants are not too picky about soils, but prefer loose, organically rich, moisture-retentive, freely draining soil. Plant these calla lily bulbs in spring after all threat of frost has passed, spacing them 12 to 24 inches apart and 4 inches deep, with the "eyes" (or growing points) facing upwards. Water and feed calla lily plants regularly during the growing season.

Calla bulbs may survive over winter in Zone 7 if heavily mulched, but they are only summer hardy, so in areas receiving frost in the winter, dig them up in fall to overwinter or treat them as annuals.
