Description
Delosperma Fire Spinner® provides an amazing solution for covering ugly, dry soil beside the driveway, in the sunny border, or along a slope where the hose can't reach.
The hardy iceplant spreads up to 1½-feet wide within just 2 seasons of growth.
When not in bloom, the needle-like, succulent bright-green foliage reaches just 1 to 2 inches high. When the gorgeous multicolored 1½-inch flowers begin appearing, the height increases to just 4 inches. Though modest in height, Delosperma Fire Spinner forms a dense, colorful mat that chokes out weeds and retains soil moisture beautifully.
Heat and drought are no problems with Delosperma Fire Spinner. It thrives in dry climate with a minimum of water over long summer months. Pamper it the first season to allow its root system to become established then stand back and watch it grow. It also tolerates high humidity and poor, sandy, and infertile soils. Fabulous in container with soil you supply, it has amazing appeal spilling over the sides.
Discovered at a high elevation in South Africa, this delosperma was transported to his country by plant expert Panayoti Kelaidis of the Denver Botanic Garden. Hardy from coast to coast, Delosperma Fire Spinner begins flowering in late spring in most climates, continuing through midsummer. Masses of bright orange and magenta blooms will soon cover your garden floor, each starred with a bright white eye.
Resistent to deer, Delosperma Fire Spinner spreads easily on banks and slopes as well as level surfaces. The only requirements are full sunshine and good soil drainage.
