Sedum Sunsparkler® Blue Pearl

You wouldn't expect to get so much drama from a plant that only grows 6 to 8 inches tall, but Sedum Sunsparkler® Blue Pearl succeeds in bringing more than a bit of excitement to the garden. Although it blooms in late summer, setting eye-catching clusters of hot pink flowers, the intense blue-plum foliage is truly the star of this show. And it performs all season, retaining its gorgeous color even in the heat of summer, when the bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies come to feast on the nectar and pollen-rich flowers.

A Sedum hybrid, commonly called stonecrop, Sunsparkler Blue Pearl is an herbaceous perennial (Zones 3-9) with a mounded, spreading habit, making it a great ground cover. It multiplies easily but not aggressively, and plants can be divided to control unwanted spread. Blue Pearl stonecrop is a great specimen and perfect for a patio pot, but it is shown to best effect when massed or grouped in mixed beds and borders and is especially well-suited to rock gardens.

Reliable and low maintenance, Blue Pearl stonecrop is easy to grow in sunny locations. It isn't picky about the soil as long as it drains freely. Blue Pearl stonecrop stores water in its leaves, so it's drought tolerant—good for arid climates or dryer conditions. It's also heat tolerant and deer resistant.

Plant Blue Pearl roots in spring, placing them 12 to 18 inches apart and 1/2 inch deep.
