Description
The Narcissus poeticus var. recurvus (Pheasant's Eye Daffodil) is a rare narcissus with a memorable appearance and a subtly spicy fragrance.
The unique and delightful blooms of this heirloom Narcissus poeticus var. recurvus have large, star-shaped petals in soft white that curl slightly along their edges and fan out so that they're lying almost flat. In the center of the petals is a deep green eye that is ringed by a low, ruffled cup of yellow rimmed with a scarlet band.
Narcissus Pheasant's Eye starts flowering in late spring, when most other daffodils have already blossomed, thus extending the daffodil season by weeks. This lovely, low-maintenance plant grows to a height of 15 to 18 inches. It thrives in full sunlight or partial shade, particularly preferring warm, southern climes.
The Pheasant's Eye has a special tolerance for moist soil in the spring and winter. It is deer resistant and makes a beautiful addition to any bed or border arrangement. It is also great for naturalizing wooded environments.
