Description / Cercis The Rising Sun™
The most brilliantly colored selection of the eastern redbud yet, with spring foliage of deep apricot-orange, maturing to yellow and then speckled lime-green in summer, only to return to its rich golden tones for autumn. Coupled with abundant rosy-orchid blooms and vigorous yet compact growth, The Rising Sun™ Redbud is an absolute essential for the sunny garden.
Before the tree leafs out in spring, abundant pea-like flowers of lavender-rose open all along the trunk and branches, remaining for several weeks. The foliage follows, heart-shaped and very richly colored. As the deep apricot of new growth matures through shades of orange, gold, and yellow, all colors are present at once on the treea truly magnificent sight.
When the hot weather of summer arrives, the foliage of The Rising Sun™ Redbud turns a handsome shade of lime-green. Very resistant to heat and burn, it looks good even in the dog days of August before burnishing rich golden-orange again for fall.
A selection of our native eastern redbud, The Rising Sun™ Redbud is naturally resistant to pests and disease, growing rapidly in a wide range of soil types and moisture levels. It tops out at a very compact 8 to 12 feet high and about 8 feet wide, the ideal size for showcasing its beauty as a specimen or the focal point of an accent planting. Tolerant of light shade, it is very adaptable and easy to grow.

Rising Sun Red Bud 0 people found this helpfulI bought this tree to go in my son's memorial garden. The first one I bought was from another nursery. It arrived bareroot and dormant and it never grew. I was very sad. The tree from Wayside arrived healthy, in a pot, with nice growth. I put it right in the ground and it is doing great. I can't wait to see the beautiful buds in the spring. I would recommend this little tree and nursery to anyone.

Redbud 0 people found this helpfulI am enjoying the first season (2019) of this interesting tree. It is in full leaf. Beautiful! It is meant to replace an ash tree that became diseased and had to be removed. I am most curious to see how much it will grow next spring. I love the coloring of the leaves and sure hope to see blossoms next season. I would encourage the purchase of this tree.

Unique and beautiful addition to our landscaping. 0 people found this helpfulThe spring pink flowers are a wonderful splash of color, and is a perfect companion to our Ruby Falls Red Bud. New growth foliage is as beautiful as the fall colors. I have mine for going on 3 years and it is a fairly slow grower, ours was pretty small when planted and is know around 2 1/2 feet high. I don't think it will go higher than 8 or 9 feet in height. This is a cool tree.

Fabulous Little Tree 0 people found this helpfulWe received our Rising Sun bare root a year ago and marveled at how quickly it bloomed and grew a solid foot the first summer. I worried about it making it through the winter, especially due to the fact that we do not have green thumbs. Well to our wonderment, it not only came back, but this summer it has tripled the foliage. Neighbors love it and can see the apricot coloring two houses away. It brings a great contrast to the dark green grass everyone. Best of all, the deer, which are plenty, do not come anywhere near it. Our weeping red bud new this spring is doing just as well.
