Description / Canna World's Tallest Canna Lily Bulbs

Canna World's Tallest Musifolia is a towering canna lily that grows to a mature size of between 72 and 96 inches tall and 48 inches wide. Although this garden Titan produces attractive late-season reddish coral blooms, its massive banana-sized foliage is the star of this show. The tropical leaves have a rich variegated appearance with beautifully bronzed ribs and edges.

This heat-loving, rhizomatous tender perennial thrives in Zones 8-11 and is particularly suited for southern gardens. With its upright growth habit and rapid development, Canna Musifolia is perfect for creating a dramatic focal point in beds, borders, or large patio containers. When planted in groups or masses, the effect is nothing short of mesmerizing. Just be sure to plant it where it has plenty of room to grow.

Low-maintenance and easy to grow, Canna Musifolia performs best in sunny to partially shaded areas with organically rich, well-draining soil. While the soil should remain consistently moist, proper drainage is essential to prevent bulb rot. Deadhead spent blooms by removing the entire flowering stem to promote continuous flowering. Allow the foliage to die back naturally before cutting it away. This plant is also deer resistant, adding to its appeal.

To plant, bury the Musifolia rhizomes 2 to 4 inches deep in warm soil, spacing them 18 to 24 inches apart with the shoots (3/5 eyes) facing up. Apply mulch for added protection during the winter months. In colder regions where cannas are not hardy, plant Musifolia bulbs in early summer and dig them up in fall to store in a frost-free location.

Stunning canna has tropical blooms and showy foliage, while they're not true lilies, they grow from rhizomes and so are easy to plant, divide, and take up if you're in a cooler hardiness zone. Find the details for growing cannas in our Canna Care Guide.
