Description / Citrus 'Fukushu' Kumquat Tree

Citrus 'Fukushu' Kumquat Tree, a semi-dwarf cultivar, is valued not only for fruit production but also for ornamental purposes and fits beautifully into an edible landscape. Highly ornamental, this handsome, thornless tree is covered in lovely, rounded dark green leaves and blooms in clusters of showy, fragrant flowers throughout the growing season. The flowers are followed by large, delicious kumquats with juicy tart flesh and edible skin that is thin and sweet, which makes them perfect for fresh eating or for candied fruit slices.

A Fortunella obovate, also known as Changshou kumquat, 'Fukushu' Kumquat has been grafted onto semi-dwarf rootstock and has a compact habit and spreading form. The tree makes an excellent accent or specimen plant and can be trained as an espalier or grown in a container. In the garden, 'Fukushu' Kumquat can reach 10 to 15 feet tall at full maturity, but it can be pruned to maintain any desired size and shape. In a container, the tree will be much smaller, but it will still flower and set full-sized fruits.

Citus 'Fukushu' Kumquat Tree requires at least 8 hours of full sun a day and grows best in deep, evenly moist, well-draining soil. It tolerates a wide variety of soils except heavy, wet soils. Protect the tree from strong winds and temperatures below freezing. Move container plants inside at the first sign of frost and place them in a location with plenty of bright sunshine. The tree is self-fertile and will bear fruit without any pollen from other varieties.

Citrus trees will ship at the appropriate planting time based on your growing zone. Citrus trees do not ship in December or January. Plant height is 18-36" when shipped.
