Description / Mazus Purple Creeping Mazus
Mazus Purple is a semi-evergreen perennial ground cover that blooms in mid-spring creating a carpet of beautiful little purple-blue flowers hovering above a dense, lush ground-hugging mat of bright green leaves that creep along the ground. The flowers attract butterflies to the garden.
A Mazus reptans variety, commonly called creeping mazus, Mazus purple has a fast growth rate12+ inches a yearand a low growing, spreading habit. Super tough and durable, creeping mazus is an effective replacement for turfgrass in moist locations, such as along streams and creeks and around ponds and water gardens. It withstands light to medium foot traffic, so it's a good filler between paving stones. Creeping mazus also makes a nice bed and border plant and looks especially lovely cascading from a container or hanging basket.
Cold hardy, creeping mazus grows best in sunny to partly shady locations with fertile, moist, well-draining soil, but it tolerates most soils, including peat, clay, sandy and rocky soils, as well as humidity, drought, and some shade, especially in hot summer climates; however, flowering may be diminished in shade. A layer of mulch will help keep roots cool and moist. Mazus Purple resists rabbit damage.
