Description / Gladiolus Sunrise Blend Bulbs

Sunrise Blend contains 3 large-flowering gladiolus varieties: Essential gladiolus, Black Star gladiolus, and Bra Val gladiolus. Long and heavy blooming, these 3 statuesque beauties soar to heights of 38 to 60 inches, rising above an upright fan of slender, strappy leaves. This bold high-contrast combo of satiny white, lemony yellow, and the darkest red—nearly black—blooms create breathtaking floral displays for summer gardens or cut-flower arrqangements.

Sunrise Blend contains Gladiolus spp. varieties, commonly called gladiolus, glads, or sword lilies, that are perennials in Zones 7-10. For a spectacular display, plant Sunrise Blend gladiolus in clusters or masses within garden beds, borders, containers, or rock gardens. And, they're a must have in a cutting garden. These tall varieties may require staking in areas prone to strong winds.

Sunrise Blend gladiolus are easy to grow and thrive in sunny to partially shaded locations with rich, well-draining soil that retains some moisture for the roots. If your soil is too sandy or heavy clay, improve it with organic matter like peat moss or bark. Fertilize lightly after planting and again during summer with a balanced plant food. Water deeply at planting and consistently throughout the growing season to ensure moisture reaches the roots. Mulch around the plants to maintain soil moisture and regulate temperature.

Select a sheltered spot away from harsh winds and plant Sunrise Blend gladiolus bulbs (corms) after the last frost, spacing them 4 to 6 inches apart and planting 4 to 6 inches deep. For staggered blooms, plant bulbs every two weeks throughout spring. After flowering, allow the foliage to remain until it browns or frost approaches. Then, dig up the corms, clean, dry, and store them in a cool, dry location (40-50°F) for winter.
